Gray skies, cool temps linger into evening

Wednesday morning's rain shifted off to the east of the Triangle by lunchtime, but the skies remained gray and the temperatures lower than normal.

While the rain will likely hold off for the rest of the day, temperatures will only reach into the high 60s in the afternoon. Despite the decreasing chance of rain, though, spotty rain is still possible.

"It should stay fairly dry," said WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner. "An isolated shower could pop up anywhere, anytime. (But today) stays gray and damp and cool."

The high of 67 degrees is well below the 80-degree normal temperature for this time of year, Gardner said, but still well above the record low of 58 degrees set in 1981.

The low front bringing the wet weather in the middle of the week will stall along the coast to help feed more moisture into eastern North Carolina over the weekend. Through Sunday, the front could bring from one to four inches of rain to different parts of the region.

"All total, we're really talking about a good bit of rain," Gardner said.
