Rain moves out, heat returns for Wednesday

The steady rain that soaked the Triangle through mid-day Tuesday will wind down as the afternoon wears on, and the sun could even peek out before the day is done, WRAL meteorologist Nate Johnson said.

RALEIGH, N.C. — After a day of rainy relief from the heat, the sun returns to the Triangle on Wednesday, but only after a gloomy start that could cause problems during the morning commute.

"There certainly won't be any rain around tomorrow morning, but with the rain today and clearing skies tonight, we're setting ourselves up for some patchy dense fog," said WRAL Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel. "Keep that in mind if you're planning to be out late tonight or early tomorrow morning."

Wednesday will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy with temperatures pushing back into the upper 80s. There is a slim chance for a stray shower or storm in the afternoon or evening, mainly south and southeast of the Triangle area, Fishel said.

A similar summer pattern sets up for the end of the week and into Independence Day weekend. Days will be warm and sticky with temperatures right below the 90-degree mark and a slight chance of afternoon storms each day.

Fishel said it's too soon to say precisely the where and when of any weekend storms which may affect fireworks or holiday picnic plans.
