ENFIELD, N.C. — Police said Wednesday that they are investigating the death of an Enfield man whose car crashed in a supermarket parking lot Tuesday evening after witnesses said he might have been shot in a fight.

Chester Lee Banks Jr., 20, lost control of his car on U.S. Highway 301, and the vehicle went into a ditch and then crashed outside the Just Save Grocery at about 6:45 p.m., Enfield Police Chief Eddie Buffaloe said. Banks was pronounced dead at the scene.

Some witnesses told police that Banks had been fighting with another man on Hannon Street in Enfield, and they said they had heard gunshots, Buffaloe said.

Banks' body has been sent to a medical examiner for an autopsy to determine the cause of death, the chief said, adding that investigators are trying to find the man Banks was reportedly fighting with so they can question him.
