Purses stolen from locked cars outside Cary day cares

Posted October 24, 2012

— Cary police are investigating a series of car break-ins that happened outside day cares Wednesday morning.

Four women at different centers reported leaving their purses inside their locked vehicles while they took their children inside.

When they returned, they found their windows smashed and purses stolen.

Cary say they will patrol the areas more vigilantly in the coming days.

Anyone with information about the break-ins is asked to contact Cary police.

The police department recommends everyone to take valuables with them or hide them when they leave their vehicles, even if it's for a few minutes.

I also was talking to Cary YMCA front counter and they said purses had been stolen there from locked cars for years. In my neighborhood in Buckingham, Apex; we had 3 cars broken in this week. I think the police are more interested in writing tickets for speeding than actually doing the old boring stakeouts that actually catch real criminals.

We also had a purse stolen from a locked car about a year ago. We walking dog about 50 yards away. I saw them smash and grab. Police came and we stood in the cold as the officer would not allow us to sit in back of his car to get warm. Stood in cold for about 2 hours while he did a report. I tracked the stolen credit card online and found an attempted use in Durham. I drove there to look around and happened to see a dumpster behind the gas station.
In there was our purse with everything but credit cards and cash.
Also in the dumpster was about 5 empty new boxes of dishware and household goods. I called police and alerted them and never heard anything back. So much for police work.

At the least put your purse out of sight..yes, I have lugged the child, diaper bag, computer bag, etc into daycare and either took my purse or didn't leave it in plain view. Even at the YMCA...there are woods there and the break-ins have been going on for years. Just put stuff out of sight. If I know I don't want to take my purse..I put it in the trunk at my house..not where I am going..so it is out of sight inside the car and I haven't broadcast to all where I put it.

It is not the victims fault for leaving stuff..but when it is in plain sight this will happen. Don't be surprised...

"Do they not teach PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY in Cary? Also, coming up on the holiday season we'll be reading about this more and more.....THINK folks, THINK!!!" - Scubagirl

Locked car. Taking kids to day care. And you blame the victim for the crime. I blame the Cary Police. Spending too much time releasing private reports and not enough time cracking down on real crime.

This is unfortunate - People probably running late running in to drop their kids off thinking "I'll only be a minute". It's better to take it with you or use your trunk or hide things out of sight.

From what has been posted at the Cary Family Y on Cary Parkway, there have been break-ins of cars in the parking lot while folks were inside exercising.

sorry you are an underachiever and can't afford to live)
And that comment was made purposeful , to illustrate how dumb her comment (and now yours) was, sorry you didn't catch that. You stated nothing that discredited what I said. Again ( sure they are from Cary). I grew up in east raleigh fyi.Next time I will go slower for you. Again they locked the car in a public lot in a safe neighborhood, but hey nice to know so many perfect people. blame the victims,,,niiiice.

Cary bashing. (yawn) Get lives, folks. Theft is everywhere, it just draws more petty and stupid comments when "Cary" is in the headline.
