Pullen preps for Holiday Express; park closures planned

Pullen Park's Holiday Express sold out way back in the middle of October. So you're out of luck if you don't have tickets and wanted to go this year (tickets will go on sale for 2016 in July).

The big event, featuring Christmas lights, activities, rides and Santa, takes over the park near downtown Raleigh. It runs nightly from Dec. 3 to Dec. 6 and Dec. 10 to Dec. 13. Even if you don't have tickets, but planned on going over to Pullen Park in the next couple of weeks, there are some things you need to know. And if you do have tickets, there are some important things you need to plan for.

If you don't have tickets:

Pullen Park will be closed to patrons on the following dates:

After 6 p.m., Dec. 2
All day, Dec. 3 to Dec. 6 and Dec. 10 to Dec. 13

If you're among the lucky thousands with tickets, there also are some key things to keep in mind.

Guests who have purchased tickets to Holiday Express may enter the park starting at 4 p.m., regardless of when your train departure time is. Will call for tickets is available 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Dec. 2, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Dec. 7 to Dec. 9 or anytime after 4 p.m. on the night of your event. (I recommend picking them up ahead of time if you can).
Pullen Park has an entire PDF with details on the inclement weather policy, armband and boarding pass pick-up and all of the activities.
Pullen Place will be offering a special menu for the event.

Finally, if your kids love Pullen Park, you might want to consider getting them a limited edition Pullen Park ornament this year. The full color brass ornament was designed for Pullen Park and made in North Carolina by the Charleston Mint. They are $15 and available at Pullen.
