We have several weeks until the first train departs during Pullen Park's Holiday Express, but, at last check, more than 80 percent of the tickets have sold.
Last year, the event sold out in late November.
Holiday Express features a transformed Pullen Park, which is lit up with holiday lights and displays. The evenings include a lighted train ride, local entertainment, concessions, carousel rides, crafts and a visit with Santa.
The event runs from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., nightly, Dec. 4 to Dec. 7 and Dec. 11 to Dec. 14. This year, guests buy tickets for a designated train boarding time. The earlier departure times all have wait lists now. Tickets are primarily left for the departure times after 8 p.m.
Those departure times are for the train only. Ticket holders can enter the event at, for instance, 4 p.m., to enjoy the other activities even if they have a ticket for, for instance, an 8 p.m. train. Park staff tells me that there's been some confusion about that.
Tickets, which are $8, can be purchased online or at any staffed Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources facility, including Pullen Park.
