Publix rumored to be coming to Cary

Posted December 18, 2012

We knew it was just a matter of time before Publix starting looking at the Triangle now that they are in the Charlotte area.

The Triangle Business Journal  indicated on Friday that Publix has "verbally committed" to opening a store at the intersection of Davis Drive and High House Road in Cary.

This should be interesting since there are multiple Harris Teeter and Lowes Foods stores within about a mile of that location. There will be some serious coupon promotions offered if Publix does actually come to this intersection!

I did speak with the Publix corporate office and they are not offering any information about the proposed Triangle location at this time. Once we know more, we'll let you know.

If you are a Publix fan, what do you like about the store?

I hope Publix is NOT taking over Kroger stores. My son works at Kroger and is very happily employed. As to the earlier statement that Publix only opens in areas 95% white - that's ridiculous. My daughter has lived in Tampa for 7 1/2 years - in great neighborhoods and not so great - and Publix is on every corner. It is a very nice, clean, customer service friendly I think all the grocery stores in Apex/Cary are too.

Publix rocks! We just moved back from GEorgia and I so miss my Publix trips. They have AWESOME BOGO deals, the do double coupons (they don't in Florida as is the norm for the stores there), the accept competitor coupons if there is a store in the area (ie:Super Target). The cashiers and staff are always extremely top notch - super helpful and coupon friendly. Produce and meat departments are always stocked and quality. And I never experienced them running out of any of the BOGO items no matter when I went during the week. Love Publix!

jdoublas, that Kroger site at High House and 55 is in use. Walmart put a neighborhood market in there, they opened a couple months ago. They are putting another Walmart neighborhood market in the Food Lion site at Harrison and Maynard.

When my mom was alive, I shopped for her at Publix and found it to be a nice but expensive place to shop. They did not double coupons but that may change if they come here. They have been rumored to come here (and Charlotte) for awhile but their corporate office will not give any details (I was recently in Fla and asked). Several people here also want Wegmans which is a much better choice but they haven't come south of Virginia yet. The area around High House is going to be a bear to get in and out of as all corners will be full. But hey, that's progress. Or is it?

YEA!!! About time!! As a former resident of Florida for 28+ years, Publix was/is just a top notch company with all around EXCELLENT EVERYTHING. The competition between them and HT will be very interesting. I don't think Lowe's can even compete in the price dept.. Excellent employers also...they weren't named one (if not first) of the top companies in the Nation in CS for nothing!! I can't wait for all of us!!

Publix is great...but so is Harris Teeter. I think they are very similar and have lived in cities where they are both big.

Pete, that's interesting that you mention Publix is looking at Kroger stores. There was a really nice new Kroger, built customer for them, that was only open for about a year and has been empty since, on 55 at High House in Cary. I wonder if Publix is considering that location? If so, it wouldn't take much for them to get the store ready.

Thanks for the store details, bluepenguin!

Looks like you will all be happy if the rumors prove to be true!

When I moved to Florida in 1984 the Publix was the nicest grocery store I had ever shopped in. I especially enjoyed their produce department. I hope they will find a location in Raleigh also.
