Publix rumored to be coming to Cary

Published: 2012-12-18 09:24:37

We knew it was just a matter of time before Publix starting looking at the Triangle now that they are in the Charlotte area.

The Triangle Business Journal  indicated on Friday that Publix has "verbally committed" to opening a store at the intersection of Davis Drive and High House Road in Cary.

This should be interesting since there are multiple Harris Teeter and Lowes Foods stores within about a mile of that location. There will be some serious coupon promotions offered if Publix does actually come to this intersection!

I did speak with the Publix corporate office and they are not offering any information about the proposed Triangle location at this time. Once we know more, we'll let you know.

If you are a Publix fan, what do you like about the store?

Their cakes are amazing! Excellent bakery. I moved here from Alabama. I have not been able to find a store bakery that compares to Publix.

This is good news for the area. As a former FL resident, I can say Publix is a top shelf operation. I remember reading something about Publix looking to buy Kroger stores. I wonder if that rumor has any traction?

I love Publix for multiple reasons. I grew up around publix from elementary school all through college and I remember that Publix always had awesome produce, clean shelves, and great customer service. They have GREAT cakes, cupcakes, meat selection! The prices however are comparable to HT, but the service is great! I'm looking forward to publix coming to the area.

I am a huge Publix Fan. Grew up having one near by. They are well staffed, have great benefits for their employees. Prices are reasonable and the store is always clean. They also have bag persons.

My sister in Florida works at one. Everytime I go, I head straight there. great deli, bakery, seafood and meats. The prices are good. This is a really good thing for everyone!

FINALLY, a store worth spending our hard earned money at!!!! I can't wait!!!!!

Love their deli and produce!

Competition is NEVER a bad thing for consumers :)

I'm excited to hear they may be coming to NC. Now, we need to start enticing them to come to Johnston County. Flowers Plantation area in Clayton would be nice -- a little competition for the new HT, perhaps? But 70 would be okay too. ;)

I lived in Florida and started my couponing at Publix. I love them and miss them terribly since moving to NC. Although they did not double coupons in FL, they did allow overage and there were many opportunities for that especially being able to combine their store coupons with the manufacture's coupons. I felt like I saved so much more shopping there than at Harris Teeter, even with doubles and triples.

WE WANT A WHOLE FOODS!

I am from Florida and a HUGE Publix fan. Although I live in Raleigh, it may be worth the drive to check them out! I think they are very similar in quality as Harris Teeter, so this placement would be interesting.

From The Krazy Coupon Lady website, it appears that Publix only doubles manufacturer coupons that are $0.50 or less (except in Florida).

msgooch2000 - No, this is in addition to the one you're referring to. (This one is in Northwoods Shopping Center on Maynard/N. Harrison, and is still under construction.) Apparently one of the reasons the Food Lion that was there closed down was due to the new Aldi's across the street, but I'm sure it didn't help having another Food Lion barely a half-mile down the road.

My aunt lives in FL and exclusively shops at Publix and Walmart. She doesn't coupon, though, so not sure about their couponing policies. Looking forward to having another choice in the area!

DianeNC: they already opened up that Walmart. To be honest, I have yet to see that parking lot 1/2 full, other than opening week.

This is going to be VERRRRY interesting for that intersection. Not even a mile, less than a block from that intersection, you already have a Lowes on one side & an HT on the other. There has been a lot of construction in that area: residential on one side & expansion of retail (where BoJangles is) on the other. There was also a rumor that Target was going in there, but we will see. Too many options for me only 5 minutes from my door!!!! :-)

I have a friend in Florida who says Publix will have to do more than they do down there if they want to compete with HT. He says they don't double and triple coupons, so either they will have to do that up here or no need to open their doors.

I used to live in Florida and I LOVE Publix! That is one of the things I really do miss about FL. They have good prices, I liked the deli and their sandwiches and they have the cutest pilgrim people at Thanksgiving! :)

"Publix only operates in areas that are at least 95% white within 5 miles."

This comment is simply not true. I lived in St. Petersburg and Clearwater, Florida combined for 30 years and Publix had store locations less than 5 miles from a heavily African American area of St. Petersburg and also less than 5 miles from a heavily populated Hispanic area of Clearwater. Their customer service was always excellent. It is one of the hallmarks of their store.

Does Publix offer double coupons, like HT and Lowes Foods? Also, I may have posted this already, but it will be a Walmart Neighborhood Grocery that will be taking the place of the Food Lion that closed in Northwoods Shopping Center in Cary, in case there was a hope a Publix would be filling that spot.

I love Publix! We're from Florida and that's where we always shopped. everything is fresh, they have good prices and willing to add merchandise if requested.

My sister in law lives in SC and I am always jealous of the coupon booklets and store coupons publix has! I can't wait to be able to stack store and manufacturer coupons. Hopefully it won't take them long to build an east Raleigh or JoCo store.

I also heard there is one coming to Wakefield where the old Kroger was.

Where shopping is a pleasure!
