Public Service Board approves Brattleboro solar project

Posted October 12

— The Vermont Public Service Board has authorized the construction of a 150-kilowatt solar array at Brattleboro's SIT Graduate Institute.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports ( ) the board ordered the issuance of a certificate of public good to World Learning Community Solar One LLC for the project on Sept. 29.

The array will be built on the school's property on Kipling Road to the west of the Lowey International Center. A 50-foot vegetated buffer will separate 19 rows of solar panels from a nearby stream.

The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources recommended the inventory of rare, threatened, endangered and non-native invasive plant species at the site before construction.

The project falls under Green Mountain Power's "supplemental net-metering program," which was enacted after the utility met its net-metering capacity limit under state law.
