Proposed car dealership relocation upsets Wake Forest residents

“I guess we just fear that there's going to be a lot more traffic through the neighborhood,” said Brown, who lives in the Shearon Farms subdivision. “And nobody wants to have a lot of traffic through their neighborhood. We like to kind of keep to ourselves and our little cozy neighborhood.”

Bobby Murray Chevrolet, currently on Capital Boulevard just south of the Beltline, wants to relocate about 10 miles up the road to property behind the subdivision near Burlington Mills Road.

Red shirts worn by residents in opposition of the move were sprinkled throughout town hall chambers during a town council Tuesday night.

They weren’t against the dealership itself, they said, but rather the idea of large trucks driving through their neighborhood.

“We just don’t want the community disturbed too much to satisfy his needs,” resident Wayne Cassidy said.

Two of the roads that would access the proposed location are through the subdivision, but town leaders assured residents that they would not be a disturbance.

“We will have policies that will strictly prohibit any demo drives or vehicle check drives exiting in any manner to the east and into the Shearon Farms neighborhood,” a dealership spokesman said during the meeting.

Town leaders did not say when a final decision will be made.
