Proposal would delay toll road bills

Posted April 3, 2013

— Two Wake County lawmakers apparently are tired of complaints from drivers on the Triangle Expressway over toll bills that amount to pennies.

The North Carolina Turnpike Authority mails monthly bills to people who use the toll road but don't have a transponder on their car linked to a prepaid account to pay the fee. Many drivers who have gotten bills for less than $1 complained once late fees for the paltry bills started mounting.

Republican Reps. Paul Stam and Tom Murry filed a bill Wednesday that would prevent the Turnpike Authority from sending any bills until a driver owes at least $5. The bill would then detail the various trips on the toll road and amounts owed for each.

The toll authority's answer to this - every trip costs $5 or more.

I pay for every use, everyone should pay as well.

    Makes perfect sense.

    The Dems will hate it.
