Project Enlightenment, Wake County School's early childhood and intervention program, offers a slate of really great workshops for parents, teachers and caregivers of young children.

Here's what's scheduled for this month and next month. You do need to register for these programs in advance. Costs vary depending on the program. Check Project Enlightenment's website for the details and registration information.
  • 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Sept. 24, Managing Meltdowns. For families with children ages 3 to 6. Tantrums are a normal part of the parenting journey but one of the most challenging to handle. This two hour workshop will teach parents how to recognize triggers and find new ways to respond. This workshop will provide strategies to not only survive the meltdowns but actually learn from them.
  • 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Oct. 10, Toddler Issues. For families with children ages 15 months to 3 years. Toddlerhood can be challenging for any parent. Come learn “what makes them tick.” In this workshop, we will discuss discipline, development, and ways to communicate with a toddler that will increase cooperation and reduce power struggles.
  • 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Oct. 15, 22 and 29, Positive Discipline: Firmness & Limit Setting. For families with kids ages 3 to 6. Tired of tantrums? Weary of whining? Kids not listening? In this three-session workshop series on the foundations of positive discipline, parents will learn how to develop a firm, effective limit setting style, follow through with choices and consequences and prevent misbehavior before it starts. Each workshop series is three weeks in length and includes lectures, discussions, reading assignments and a workbook.
  • 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Oct. 24, Understanding Children's Temperament and How It Impacts Their Behavior. For families with kids ages 2 to 6. Why are some children so challenging while others seem so easy? In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to identify their child's individual temperament traits and learn strategies to nurture those traits into becoming their child's greatest strength. This high energy, interactive workshop will give participants new insight into understanding their child differently and ways to support him/her.
Project Enlightenment is on Boylan Avenue near downtown Raleigh.
