Probe of plant larcenies leads to meth arrests
An investigation of larcenies at a fertilizer plant led Halifax County sheriff's deputies to charge two men and a woman Friday with planning to make and distribute meth.
Posted — UpdatedAdam Dwight Wise, 26, of Mount Olive, and Sammie Dean Porter, 43, of Clinton, each face charges of possessing , felony conspiracy, second-degree trespassing and larceny. Wise was also charged with possessing marijuana.
Elizabeth Anne Finnicum, 26, of Clinton, was charged with felony conspiracy.
Maj. Bruce Temple praised the "special dedication" of Deputies Charlie Jenkins and Drecher Bozard in the investigation.
"In lieu of no overtime in the existing budget and a continued problem at the fertilizer plant with larcenies, the deputies gave their own time to set up surveillance, which lead to the apprehensions in this case," Temple said.
Wise and Porter were being held in the Halifax County Jail Friday under separate $50,000 bonds. Finnicum was being held under a $2,500 bond.
According to state Department of Correction records, Porter was placed on probation in April after being convicted in Sampson County for possessing precursors to manufacture methamphetamine and maintaining a place for the purpose of manufacturing a contraband subject.
DOC records show that Finnicum was also on probation for a larceny in Johnston County in December 2007.
