RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh man on probation for assault convictions faces accusations that he raped a woman on Friday, according to arrest warrants.

Kwame Antonio Signal, 20, was charged with first-degree rape. He was placed in the Wake County jail under a $50,000 secured bond.

Police spokesman Jim Sughrue said that Signal knew the victim and that the alleged rape took place at a motel on Wake Towne Drive.

Signal was given probation after being convicted of two misdemeanor counts of assault with a deadly weapon on April 27, according to state Department of Correction records.

He is also serving probation for a September conviction for assault on a female, also a misdemeanor.
