— A private jet with seven people on board went into the Croatan Sound Friday morning while landing at the Dare County Regional Airport in Manteo, authorities said.

The chartered Citation from Tampa, Fla., was carrying two pilots and five passengers when it ran off the runway and into the water at about 8:30 a.m., authorities said.

Everyone was able to get out of the jet, and five people were taken to Outer Banks Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Coast Guard was assisting with the plane, which remains in the water, and local authorities notified the National Transportation Safety Board of the incident.

"Someone's several-million-dollar jet is going to need a whole lot of repairs after this ..."

No that jet is a total write-off. Saltwater and aluminum don't play well together (it creates chemical reactions in the metal) and all of the expensive electrics are ruined.

Wrong tail and has trust reversers to be in the CJ series. Probably a CII or Bravo. Not even a good day for ducks this morning.

Dirty_Water - "A Private jet has only one chevron. A Corporate jet has two chevrons. A Sergeant jet has 3 chevrons and up to three rockers and miscellaneous other insignia. Private jets just joined, and will, with time, work their way up."

    pfffttt

    LOL LOL LOL

In the USMC, privates have NO chevrons. They're called "Slick Sleeve."

Privates First Class (PFCs) have one chevron.

    God bless.

Citation CJ+. Insurance will cover this, no problemo. Either brake failure, to hot (fast) on landing, or just plane not paying attention :)

Regardless of whomever the plane did belong to it's probably up for sale on Monday.

It's not a Citation X. The rear wing isn't high enough. I don't know a ton about them but I know there is a problem with Citation X falling back if it's back heavy and snow piles up on the wing because of leverage. But as for repairs, there will not be repairs on a flood plane. Would you fly in a plane that had water damage to electronics? And probably 85% of the value is the avionics.
