Tillery, N.C. — A 61-year-old inmate who is six months from being released from prison is paralyzed from the neck down following a fight at Caledonia Correctional Institution, Halifax County authorities said Wednesday.
Deputies on Tuesday charged two inmates in connection with the fight, which occurred last month at the prison in Tillery.
Moshesh Gooding, 39 , was charged with assault inflicting serious bodily injury, and Marc Farrar, 45, was charged with felony obstruction of justice. Investigators say an argument between Gooding and another inmate escalated into a physical altercation, and Farrar later provided misleading information about the incident to investigators.
The paralyzed inmate, whose name hasn't been released, is in stable condition at an undisclosed hospital. Authorities said he has been in prison since 1969 and was scheduled to be released in June.
