— Former President Jimmy Carter visited Raleigh on Wednesday to sign copies of his new book for fans at Quail Ridge Books.

People lined up at door of the popular bookstore on Wade Avenue in anticipation of Carter's appearance, which was scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. Security was tight, with Raleigh police assisting Secret Service officers.

The former president didn't give a talk, but he signed dozens of copies of his latest book, "A Call to Action: Women, Religion, Violence and Power."
