Prairie Ridge Ecostation, the great outdoor learning lab that's part of the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences but in west Raleigh, will host a couple of special play days in its Nature PlaySpace.

The Nature PlaySpace is an outdoor area that features play pieces made from natural items. There's an otter slide, groundhog tunnel, woodland hut, mini-prairie maze, and areas for art, digging and water play. Kids also can climb over logs, make mud pies and dig for fossils.

During the special play days, young children can enjoy some guided, hands-on fun. They are free. Registration is not required. The play days are 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 19 and July 26.

Contact Sarah Safley at 919-707-9903 or sarah.safley@naturalsciences.org for more information.

Prairie Ridge also hosts weekly storytimes from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Thursdays. Topics include animal movement this week; dragonflies on July 28; and beach day on Aug. 4. They are best for ages 7 and under. Kids must be with an adult. Registration is not required for these either.

Prairie Ridge is at 1671 Gold Star Dr., Raleigh.
