RALEIGH, N.C. — Gov. Pat McCrory is getting a positive, if tentative, review after his first week in office, according to Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling.

The firm found that 45 percent of North Carolinians surveyed gave the new Republican governor good marks, versus 19 percent of disapproved of his performance. More than a third of poll respondents were "not sure" what they thought about the governor.

Whatever they thought about the governor himself, survey respondents were largely unsure what to make of his initial cabinet picks. More than two thirds said they were not sure what to make of Tony Tata to head the transportation department or Art Pope as budget director.

However, North Carolina knows exactly what it thinks about the job the legislature is doing, despite the fact it has only been in session one day this year and lawmakers haven't filed a single substantial bill yet. Half of those survey disapprove of the job the General Assembly is doing.
