Power restored for hundreds after car strikes Wake County utility pole

More than 1,000 homes were in the dark Sunday evening after a car crashed into a power pole in Raleigh.

— Power has been restored for hundreds of customers on Monday after a car crashed into a power pole in Wake County overnight, leaving more than 1,000 homes in the dark.

At 6 a.m., officials with Duke Energy said an estimated 666 customers were without power in Wake County and about 40 were without power in Johnston County. At 7 a.m., the company announced that repairs were complete and that power is restored.

The wreck that caused the outage occurred on Old Stage Road at about 8 p.m. Crews at the scene said power lines had been knocked down and caught fire.

Police did not say what caused the crash or disclose the condition of the driver.
