— Traffic on Interstate 40 between Wilmington and Wake County was slow Monday afternoon, as drivers returned home from the beach or traveled to celebrate the end of a busy holiday weekend.

Two wrecks near the Wake-Johnston county line briefly delayed drivers near the N.C. Highway 42 exit off I-40. One person was taken to WakeMed following a single-vehicle wreck. A second wreck involved three vehicles, but authorities said the people involved suffered only minor injuries.

Near Exit 309, where the three lanes of the highway merge into two, state troopers reported a bottleneck of a few miles, but overall traffic was moving slowly but surely.

WRAL SEZ "Traffic on Interstate 40 between Wilmington and Wake County was slow Monday afternoon."

I came through there yesterday afternoon. Traffic only came to a halt 9 miles south of the NC 42 exit. From Wilmington north to that point was fine.

Slow down folks! If these accidents involved vacationers who were anxious to get home, maybe they should have left yesterday. Hopefully no one was badly hurt.
