CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Chapel Hill police on Wednesday warned residents in the area of Vance and Pittsboro streets after receiving reports of a fox acting strangely.

Animal control officers were called to the area, which is near the southwest corner of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, at about 9 p.m. Tuesday after the fox reportedly ran toward a pedestrian.

The fox left the area before officials arrived, and it has not been confirmed to be rabid.
