Portland police investigating death of toddler

PORTLAND, OR — Detectives with the Portland Police Bureau have started an investigation after a southeast Portland toddler died.
Officers from the PPB's East Precinct and medical personnel responded to a report of the 2-year-old not breathing at a home in the 16900 block of Southeast Powell Boulevard just before 1 p.m. Monday.
The toddler was taken by ambulance to an area hospital but could not be revived.
The officers contacted detectives with the bureau's Homicide Detail, who responded to the residence and began their investigation.
The Oregon State Medical Examiner is scheduled to perform on autopsy on the 2-year-old Tuesday.
Detectives said the investigation is ongoing.
