Porsches as art in Raleigh exhibit
The North Carolina Museum of Art will welcome an exhibit of 22 beautiful Porsches on Oct. 12.
Posted — UpdatedPorches from the late 30s through the turn of the century will be on display.
The curators of the art museum consider the automobiles an art form.
“When you look at them as an art form, as a sculpture, they have their own story to tell,” Ken Gross, a curator, said.
Those stories features characters like “Janis.” Among the featured cars is one that belonged to Janis Joplin, the late singer and songwriter.
“She bought it second hand for $3,500 dollars in San Francisco,” Gross said. Joplin had her friend paint the car and she drove it to concerts, Gross added.
“These cars are very much the embodiment of the people who owned them and drove them,” he said.
Steve McQueen’s speedster is also a part of the exhibit. “It’s really cool to sit where the king of cool sat,” Gross said.
Porsche has always attracted driving enthusiasts, but it truly takes an art lover to appreciate their beauty.
