Pope Airman killed in Afghanistan

— A Pope Air Force Base Airman died Tuesday near Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan, officials said Wednesday.

Senior Airman Ashton L.M. Goodman, 21, of Indianapolis, died after an improvised explosive device blew up. She was assigned to the 43rd Logistics Readiness Squadron at Pope.

Goodman is the fifth Pope Airman killed in action since Sept. 11, 2001, and the first from the 43rd Airlift Wing, officials said.

    Its so hard to read that another one of our soldiers has died. I am so sorry for her family and friends and for her. Its so sad and so heartbreaking. My thoughts and prayers are with those who knew and loved her. I so appreciate her service to protect this country.
