Pope Airfield squadron commander relieved of duty
The commander of the 43rd Aeromedical Squadron at Fort Bragg's Pope Airfield has been relieved of duty following an investigation in the accidental death of a staff sergeant, post officials said Friday.

Col. Kenneth Moss, commander of the 43rd Airlift Group, removed Col. Elizabeth Shaw from her position Thursday “due to a loss of confidence in her ability to command,” according to a news release.
His decision was based on information from reports about the July 17 death of Staff Sgt. Timothy J. Wright, 30, who was assigned to the squadron.
Wright was fatally injured when a Humvee ran over him during a unit readiness training exercise. He had only been stationed in North Carolina for a few months.
“Air Force operational risk management principles and safety standards exist to prevent accidents and loss of life,” Moss said. “Commanders are responsible for ensuring compliance with these standards. In the 43rd Airlift Group, we have renewed our focus on managing risk during all operations through active involvement of leadership at all levels.”
Shaw was replaced with Lt. Col. Russ Frantz as interim squadron commander.
