Police: Wrong-way driver caused fatal Fayetteville crash

Posted July 18, 2014

Three people were killed in a four-car crash on Murchison Road in Fayetteville on July 16, 2014.

— One of the three people killed Wednesday evening in a Fayetteville wreck had crossed into oncoming traffic, causing the fatal crash, police said Friday.

The four-car crash happened in the 3500 block of Murchison Road when a 2010 Nissan pickup operated by John Wesley Morrow, 67, of Fayetteville, crossed the center line, police said.

Jimmy Campbell, 50, of Lumberton, and Laytosha McNair, 35, of Raeford, were unable to take evasive action and slammed into Morrow's truck and each other, police said.

All three drivers died at the scene. The driver of a fourth car in the pile-up, Jennifer Chagnon, 40, of Clemmons, wasn't seriously injured.

Police said they are still trying to determine what caused Morrow to cross the center line.

Murchison Road was closed between Pamalee Drive and Shaw Mill Road for more than six hours after the wreck.

Well, w emay know if it was a heart attack, alcohol or drugs. But 67 yo men do not tend to be reckless drunk drivers. So my money is on a heart attack or diabetic seizure and foot went down on accelerator as he passed out. Horrible tragedy. What's left of that truck shows how devestating the impact was, a Titan with a V8 is a full size truck, and there is nothing left of the cab:(

The pictures of the damage looked like a head on collision to me.

Terrible. Someone was slamming the possibility of it being an "accident" yesterday as if no car wrecks could be accidents. That old man could have been a terrible driver or he could have had a heart attack and died before the crash. We'll never know. Awful tragedy, nonetheless
