— Roanoke Rapids police on Wednesday released surveillance photos of a man and woman believed to be involved in the attempted armed robbery of a gas station on March 21.

Police said that a masked man wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt pointed a black handgun at a cashier at the Shell gas station at 15 Roanoke Ave. He demanded money, but the cashier couldn't open the drawer fast enough.

The gunman then pulled the trigger three times, but the gun didn't fire, police said. He left without getting any money and fled in a champagne-colored Kia Sportage, probably a 2009 model, police said.

Police said the would-be robber was helped by a woman who drove the getaway car and checked out the store about 50 minutes before the robbery attempt.

Police said they are investigating the incident as a case of attempted murder and armed robbery.

Anyone with information about the identity of the man and woman should call Roanoke Rapids police at 919-583-2488.

This is a good case for an armed citizen. Had one been there gettin gas or shopping. Most conceald carry folks have guns, good ones, that work.

I can't even imagine having someone point a gun at you and pull the trigger 3 times and have nothing happen. I hope the store clerk finds peace of mind quickly.

Both look healthy enough to get jobs....oh wait that would require an effort on their part......much easier to take from someone else...besides, the courts won't do anything !!!!!

You would think that with today's technology, stores would have better surveillance cameras.

Just too sad. And there are actually people out there who think that abortion is a bad thing. Here are two perfectly good examples of why it should be performed on a fairly regular basis. Just think, abortion could be SAVING lives.

Well if it had fired the clerk probably would be a goner. Hence "nearly killed."
