Police: Woman fights off attacker in Fayetteville

Police are investigating a possible attempted sexual assault near the intersection of Herndon Street and Morganton Road Saturday night.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Police are investigating a possible attempted sexual assault near the intersection of Herndon Street and Morganton Road Saturday night.

A woman reported that she was walking in the area around 8:30 p.m. when a man grabbed her from behind, dragged her off the street and began to assault her, police said.

The victim was able to fight off the man, who fled the scene on foot. She suffered minor injuries.

Police said they believe the man had a sexual motive for the attack.

He was described as black, with a dark complexion and muscular build, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall, wearing a white T-shirt wrapped around his head, gray tank top and black or gray nylon shorts.
