— A Wake Forest teen made up a story about being stabbed last month on a walking trail in the Heritage development, police said Friday.

The 15-year-old told police he was running along a wooded trail near the neighborhood when a man approached him and demanded money. The teen said the man then stabbed him.

Wake Forest police stepped up patrols in the area after the alleged incident and issued an alert to nearby residents.

Police said a subsequent investigation turned up no suspects or leads. They confronted the teen Friday about several inconsistencies in his story, and he confessed to making it up, police said.

The teen, whose name hasn't been released because of his age, will be charged through a juvenile petition with filing a false report to law enforcement.

A terrible thing to have made up a story like this...causing the police force to use all the extra man oower for a teen making up a story about this. Even is he is under age and will be charged as a minor I hope that they make it a very harsh one.

fyi...the "victim" was hispanic. also, maybe all the other folks should not jump to conclusions when something "bad" happens in their neighborhood. things aren't always as they seem, so over-reaction and mass neighborhood e-mails aren't always necessary. let the police do their job and if there is something we need to know, i'm sure they will tell us. just a little birdie in the area

I agree with you. I'm hispanic but why do people always have to talk about a black, hispanic, asian, etc(other than white)doing a crime? When will all this racism stop!?

When people like you stop being racist. How do you know the teen was not black or hispanic?

I knew it! I knew it! I knew it!! The night they aired this story I turned to my husband and said that boy was lying!! I figured he might have been involved in a drug deal gone bad (yes, even in Heritage, kids do drugs). It would be interesting to hear the whole true story.

"Wow, no wonder there was no real description of the person who supposedly did this except that he was wearing dirty jeans and oh just so happened to be black. What possessed him to do this?"
