Police: Victim's family assaults Fayetteville robbery suspects

Posted May 23, 2011

— Relatives of a woman who was robbed outside her Fayetteville apartment late Sunday shot, beat and stabbed two men suspected in the purse-snatching, police said Monday.

Raufeal Weddy, 22, of Village Drive, was critically wounded, while Terrel Battle, 26, of Clark Street, was released from a local hospital Monday afternoon, police said.

Witnesses said the men tried to rob Maria Guebara, 47, of her purse outside 20 Cambridge Arms. When she began screaming, 10 to 15 family members and friends ran from nearby apartments and chased the suspected robbers, police said.

One of the men fired a shot that just missed one of the pursuers, leaving a hole in his clothing, police said.

Guebara's family and friends apprehended and disarmed the two men, shooting both in the struggle for their gun, police said. They then beat and stabbed the men, police said.

A third suspected robber fled the area in a silver Buick, police said.

The case remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed.

To: Common Nonsensical. I find it very interesting that you have gotten your panties in a knot over the armed robbers/attempted murderers being detained by family/friends of the female victim.

Can't believe that they didn't charge the crooks who stole or tried to steal the woman purse.

The family which assaulted the perps still needs to be sent to jail. Having all of my posts deleted will still not change this.

I wonder if Cambridge Arms put a warning to the residents about this. I know when I stayed there nothing was ever said when a crime happened.

It's amazing how clumsy these crooks become once they have been caught. They have cuts, bruises, and accidentally stabbed or shot themselves! Fallen down a flight of stairs, even. Oh well, when seconds count the police are only 5 minutes away!

to all of you who think that the family should be prosecuted..I hope that nothing ever happens to your loved ones... maybe you would feel different if it did..sometimes you just have to put yourself in other's shoes, and not be so judgemental. I don't feel sorry for the trash that was robbing her to begin with. They got what they deserved..and maybe next time, they'll think long and hard before doing this again..because the next time..it could be you or yours. Just saying..
