— The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who stole more than 23 flat-screen televisions from a Fayetteville elementary school in the past 11 months.

The televisions, valued at $30,000 total, have been disappearing from Westarea Elementary School since September 2011, investigators said. The latest theft was reported Monday, when a 32-inch Bravia was discovered missing from a classroom.

Investigators said school security video shows a young black man, between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall, walking the halls and leaving with the televisions. The thefts happened between 10:30 p.m. and 5 a.m., when the school is closed.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 910-323-1500.

@ obamacare, you do know that on the listings it will not read "Freshly Stolen TV". How are the police supposed to go through 100's, if not 1000's, of tv listing none of which are required to show nothing more than what state they are in? Being a detective is so easy on tv and to those that have no clue how to actually do it.

Um, check ebay or craigslist for flatscreen listings. Crime solved.

Not to be mean but I know who was considered responsible at a school I worked. Down the road were some unpleasant/questionable residents who were caught in the school a couple of times. Usually when high valued items got missing...it was the custodial staff and sometimes the faculty. They know where the cameras are, which ones are active, and how to avoid them. In this case given he didn't avoid the security cameras it's mostly a questionable resident in the local community.

That is an average of over two per month. With this big an issue nobody thought it would be worth while to install a burgular alarm? Something fishy here when an ongoing problem is not addressed.

They must not have an alarm system at the school. CCTV but no alarm system.
