Police: Teen took rifle, jacket from car

— Goldsboro police arrested a 16-year-old Wednesday on charges he stole a rifle, scope, watch and jacket from a parked car.

The victim reported his car was broken into on March 16 while parked in the 700 block of West Chestnut Street.

Police linked the crime to Dakota James Murray, 16, of 203 Rosson Drive in Pikeville, and charged him with breaking and entering a motor vehicle, larceny of a firearm and misdemeanor larceny. Murray was being held in the Wayne County Jail on $10,000 secured bond.

    Jail for him not juvi in NC a 16 year old is treated as an adult when it comes to some crimes.
    do not know his family but maybe they did try to steer him in the right direction but it does not always work

    If he hadn't been in a vehicle that he didn't belong to him he wouldn't be in trouble now, misdemeanor or felony.

    If you want to decrease gun crime, increase the penalties for crimes involving them. People see too much opportunity with little in the way of consequences in these situations.

    When his trial comes the courts should absolutely give this young man 30 years. He knew exactly what he was doing. No excuse for it. What kind of parents do he have? Did he live with both or just one parent?
