— A 17-year-old Fayetteville man has been charged in connection with an April sexual assault that happened along McCormick Road in Spring Lake, police said Saturday.

Christopher Scott Werley, of 3734 Scrub Oak Court, is charged with first-degree kidnapping and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

According to investigators, Werley used a Craigslist ad to lure a woman to the intersection of McCormick Road and Hinkle Street at about 1 a.m. on April 23. When the woman exited her vehicle, Werley hit her in the head with a handgun and forced her to surrender her cellphone to him, police said.

Werley then forced the victim into the woods off of McCormick Road, an area in the northern part of Fort Bragg Reservation, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her. Investigators said Werley was linked to the crime by DNA samples found at the scene.

Sexual assault charges are pending with Fort Bragg authorities, Spring Lake police said, because the sexual assault allegedly occurred on post.

Werley was arrested at his home without incident. He was in the Cumberland County jail Saturday under a $500,000 secured bond.

I will be so glad when ladies young and old will realize the internet is a dangerous place to find a mate/boyfriend. Many are losing their life or become involved in sexual that they have no control over. Go to church, malls, ball games, clubs wherever in person to meet someone. BUT PLEASE STAY OFF THE INTERNET TO MEET ANYONE. ITS DANGEROUS. SAME GOES FOR THE MEN LOOKING FOR WOMEN.
