Police: Teen found running near I-85 in Norcross identified

Gwinnett County, GA — 3 p.m. UPDATE:
The Gwinnett County Police Department said they have identified the 15-year-old found running in the road near Interstate 85 on Wednsday morning.
Officers found James Teate, Jr., running around on Beaver Ruin Road near I-85 at about 5 a.m. Police said the boy had a "diminished mental capacity" and they didn't know who he was. Officials put out a press release about the boy earlier in the afternoon.
According to Gwinnett Police Cpl. Michele Pihera, the mother made contact with detectives after seeing a post on social media. She is in touch with the Department of Family and Child Services to get him back.
James was about five miles away from his home when police found him.
"The mother said she was unaware that James was missing," Pihera said.
The Gwinnett County Police Department needs help identifying a boy they found running in the road near Interstate 85 on Wednsday morning.
The 5-foot-6 white boy is around 13 to 17 years old and has a "diminished mental capacity," according to Gwinnett Police Cpl. Michele Pihera.
Somebody called the police about the boy at around 5 a.m. and officers assigned to the west precinct found him running on Beaver Ruin Road near I-85 - near the Indian Trail Road exit.
The boy weighs about 140 pounds and has brown hair and hazel eyes. He's wearing blue jeans, flip flops and a green shirt with "Speed Freak" and a motorcycle printed on it.
"After doing a (database) search, there were no active missing person reports that matched this found person," Pihera said.
Police gave the boy a piece of paper and he wrote the letters "JT."
