— Raleigh police are seeking information from the public that would shed light on the final minutes of a man's life, before police say a teen ran him over on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard last week.

Freddie Lane, a 47-year-old father of three, was walking home from his sister's birthday party early on April 10 and was last seen near Cabarrus and Blount streets around 12:30 a.m.

At 2 a.m., his body was found in the roadway near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Chavis Way.

Police want to know what Lane was doing between 12:30 and 2 a.m. that would lead to him lie in the prone position in the roadway. Anyone with information that might assist the investigation is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 919-834-HELP to provide a confidential tip.

Raul Gutierrez-Leja,18, of 1124-C Angelus Drive, was charged with driving while impaired, driving without a license and having an open container of alcohol in a moving vehicle in connection with the wreck.

No other information was released.

What I would like to know is who told them he was lying in the road?

The teen who hit him, if I'm not mistaken that's what was reported in the orginal story.

If you draw a line from Chavis to Raleigh Blvd and Martin King to New Bern, that place is full of dangerous drivers, speeders and jaywalkers.

I am surprised that there are not more accidents and death. RPD South Central needs to step up their traffic enforcement... two full time motorcycle enforcement officers would pay for themselves in court costs if they did their jobs.

OK, this is confusing. So the police think this man just laid down in the street for a nap? Are they sure he didn't have a heart attack or something?

  • uncw05 Apr 14, 2011

Are they saying he was already laying in the road before the was hit?
