MORRISVILLE, N.C. — Police used a helicopter to search Tuesday afternoon for three men in connection with an armed robbery in Morrisville.

Around noon, three men attempted to rob someone in the parking lot of the Legends of Preston apartment complex, at 1000 Stony Court in Morrisville, police spokeswoman Stacie Galloway said. The victim fled the scene unharmed.

The three men drove away in a white Mitsubishi Mirage.

Police later spotted a car matching that description in the Slater Road area, where a work crew reported seeing two or three men fitting the descriptions of the robbers run into the woods off Slater Road near Interstate 540, Galloway said.

At least one weapon was recovered near the scene of the search. Police said they believed it was used in the robbery and then discarded from the getaway car.

Law enforcement officers left the scene around 2:15 p.m., but no arrests were made.

The robbers are considered to be armed and dangerous, and the case is under investigation.

Law enforcement agents from Morrisville, Cary, Raleigh-Durham International Airport, the Wake County Sheriff's Office and the state Highway Patrol assisted in the search, providing K-9 units and a helicopter.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Morrisville Police Department at 919-463-1600.
