Police make arrest in murder outside Fayetteville Inn Keeper

Lonnie Edward Johnson Jr., 25, was charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Benny Lamar Fields.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police said Saturday that the suspect in a murder outside the Inn Keeper Hotel has surrendered.

Lonnie Edward Johnson Jr., 25, was charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Benny Lamar Fields. Officers responding to the Inn Keeper Hotel, at 1720 Skibo Road, about 10:45 p.m. Monday found Fields  unconscious in the parking lot with gunshot wounds to the chest and back. He died Tuesday at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Police are still looking for a car, a gold Lincoln LS with license plate BCY-8895.
