Police search for rifles stolen from Clayton gun shop

— The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Clayton Police Department are seeking public assistance in locating several guns stolen in a November robbery.

Authorities said five 5.56/.223 caliber rifles were taken during a November 23 burglary at Trigger Happy Guns at 227 E. Main Street in Clayton.

Anybody with information about the location of the rifles is asked to call ATF at 1-888-283-8477 or Clayton Police at 919-553-4611. People can also submit tips through the ATF website or by emailing ATFTips@atf.gov.

    The theft was widely publicized at the time. I assume this is a bump, a reminder- maybe they think the thieves might have wanted to let things cool off before selling locally. The market for AR-pattern MSRs has flattened significantly since the election so maybe they figure the thieves might want to sell before their "asset" depreciates further.

    Related Q for any cop out there: if I want to see if a firearm was reported stolen how would I do that? If I buy through an FFL with a NICS check I'm OK (I think) but if it's P2P I'm on my own.
