Police say Kinston man charged in attempted murder is known gang member

Mario Devon King

— Kinston police said Thursday they have made an arrest in a shooting that happened earlier this month.

Mario Devon King, 26, of Kinston, is charged with attempted murder. He was taken into custody Wednesday by members of the violent fugitive task force of the U.S. Marshal’s Service. Police said King is a known gang member with an extensive violent criminal history, and he was recently on parole.

King is accused of shooting 45-year-old Bernard Whitfield on May 4. Whitfield was found in the street in the 2100 block of Viking Drive, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was treated at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

King was held at the Lenoir County jail under a $2 million bond. Police said there could be additional arrests in the case.

    Did you read the article?

It says he is from Kinston, the #3 top crime city in NC.

    Pretty much typical.

As far as being in jail well in our system you have to do a half dozen serious felonies before you can pass go and go to the jailhouse.

It is not politically correct to put him in jail.

"extensive violent criminal history, and he was recently on parole."

Shouldn't extensive mean less chance of parole? It's getting outrageous that gang members with "extensive violent criminal histories" are allowed out. Maybe the bounty system should be re-instituted with the option of dead or alive.

I expect to see demonstrations, marches and speeches in protest of this shooting. This type of thing happens at least daily around the country. Do all Black Lives matter only if taken by the police?
