Police response in north Raleigh slows morning traffic

Posted February 22, 2012

— Police chased two people near the intersection of Six Forks and Strickland roads in north Raleigh Wednesday morning, and the police activity caused some temporary traffic delays in the area.

Jim Sughrue, a spokesman for the Raleigh Police Department, said officers responded to a report of an attempted robbery in the 8800 block of Valentine Court. They arrested one person, but the other got away.

A vehicle was stolen from the 9000 block og Reedham Oaks Court nearby at about the same time as the robbery report, Sughrue said. Police think the missing person may have taken the car.

The second person was apprehended shortly before noon, and the stolen vehicle was recovered, Sughrue said.

@msmith - I know that guy has been involved in some shady activities involving a lot of money and businesses. One of the suspects, if it is who I think it is, has an extensive record and questionable activity recently. I'd love to know more.

Turbo, I thought I would post the website for those who might be interested in local police scanner like I am. And yes, sometimes while I am online I do listen to the scanner. What do you listen to while online?

Back in J-school they taught you to put your news story in the order of "lives, limbs and lampposts" so that you put deaths, injuries and then property damage in that order of importance. Doesn't it seem that having 2 suspects, at least one of whom was armed, on the loose after an attempted robbery AND a car theft would be a greater news priority than a traffic delay??? Come on people, figure out what the actual news is and report that. The way you wrote this is like "The traffic was backed up at Dealey Plaza after President Kennedy was shot".

turbo-Did you ever think that maybe people heard about it on the news and possibly THEN turned on the police scanner to see if they could find out any more information?

Still conflicting reports on whether they got all the perps. I see no police presence or activity in that area at almost 1pm so I would have to assume that they got all the bad guys. If not then shame and misery on RPD for not getting the word out that there is an armed and dangerous person on the loose in my neighborhood.

turbo08-what does being from NJ have to do with listening to a police scanner?

  • turbo08 Feb 22, 2012

I have been listening to this story all morning on the police scanner (radioreference.com) They have not found the suspect yet but they think they found the bike that was in the back of the suv that was stolen.

Are you advertising that website radioreferene.com? Just wondering, because I have seen a couple usernames say they were listening to that site. I just couldn't imagine listening to a police scanner all day long. But then again I'm not from New Jersey like your user name suggests so I'm not sure. I saw the back up on 540 this morning around 8.

And of course WRAL chooses to focus on the traffic delay whereas ABC11 has details on the actual event.

  • ThePhwner Feb 22, 2012

Shouldn't the headline be about the manhunt for the armed suspect and not the resultant traffic delay?
