Police probing indecent exposure claim at Durham Target

Posted October 19, 2010

— Durham police are investigating an incident at a local Target in which a man allegedly exposed himself to a 10-year-old girl.

The child’s mother said the incident happened Oct. 4 at the Chapel Hill Boulevard location. She filed a complaint the next day.

“Investigators are following up on this case and working closely with Target,” Durham Police Department spokeswoman Kammie Michael said. “No charges have been filed at this time.”

A spokeswoman for the discount retail chain said the store is cooperating with the investigation.

“The safety of our guests and team members is always our top priority,” company spokeswoman Kate Gillen said in a statement. “We will continue to partner with law enforcement as needed during their investigation of this incident.”

Huh? October 4th? Why wouldn't the mother - if she observed this - report it to the store immediately and have the store call the police? If the child reported that it happened while the mother was not in her presence, then why wait one day to report the incident?

I know that these kinds of cases can hard to solve, unless the suspect does this on more occassions, but nevertheless I hope that the perp can be caught.
