RALEIGH, N.C. — Two Raleigh teens have been charged with animal cruelty after police found a dog had been drowned in an apartment complex swimming pool last week.

A Raleigh Police Department animal control officer was dispatched to the Bexley at Brier Creek complex, at 8300 Stonebrook Terrace, on Friday morning about a dead dog, police said Monday. The officer and other investigators determined the dog had been beaten and then drowned in the complex's pool Thursday night.

The pair, both 19, were each charged with one felony count of animal cruelty. Charges against the young woman were later dismissed and her record expunged.

Police said the dog was a black Labrador mixed breed, but they don't know its age. It's unclear from the warrants who owned the dog.
