— A Fuquay-Varina police officer was hit by a car Wednesday morning as she was directing traffic in front of a local high school.

The town said Cpl. Clara Dula was taken to Western Wake Hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening.

She had just started work around 7 a.m., when she was struck outside Fuquay-Varina High School.

Police said the wreck was still under investigation Wednesday morning and that no charges have been filed against the driver, Deborah Sheerin, of Fuquay-Varina.

Dula has been the high school's school resource officer for the past two years and has been a police officer for six years.

The above named person listed as having hit the officer is an extremely responisble person and driver. My step-son, a student at Fuquay Varina High, further shared that this accident was caused by a car hitting DS's car which in turn caused her to run into the officer.

If police think they are gonna be run over, dont they usually just shoot the driver?

If you will reread the story it states that she is the school's resource officer. I would bet that a part of her duties include morning and afternoon traffic control at the school.

Well we all know that deadly force is usually the first club out of the bag but perhaps the cop did not have time to put his one bullet into his gun.

Again, people are jumping to conclusions. Nowhere in the article says that the driver was speeding. I am not familiar with the area and I didn't see it happen. The poor woman that was driving must be beside herself with worry and guilt. I feel bad for all those involved.
