Police: No charges for driver in wreck that killed girl, 6

Posted January 4

— Police in Black Mountain say no charges will be filed against the driver of a car that struck and killed a 6-year-old autistic girl.

Lt. Rob Austin said in a news release sent to local media outlets that investigators determined the driver didn't violate any laws and did what he could to avoid the accident last Friday.

According to police, Israel Wilson ran from her parked car to a sidewalk along U.S. 70. Police say the girl's mother gave chase but fell down.

Police said Israel ran on the sidewalk, then tried to cross the road before she was struck. She was transported to Mission Hospital with life-threatening injuries and died on Saturday.

This has got to be devastating for both the child's mother and the driver (plus any other family members). My condolences to all of them!
