Police: Mom chased daughter with knife

Posted December 7, 2009

— A Rocky Mount woman was arrested Sunday afternoon after she allegedly chased her daughter with a knife, police said Monday.

Joyce Parker, 38, of 228 E. Tower Lane, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

Police said Shanika Saunders, 19, was cut on her left arm following an altercation with her mother. Parker was upset with Saunders over a damaged window and chased her around the house with a knife because the teen refused to leave the house, police said.

Saunders refused medical treatment for her wound, police said.

Parker also was sentenced to 15 days in jail on a contempt of court charge. Police said the charge stemmed from the use of profanity in a magistrate's court.

most people with teenagers know how they can upset you in the worst ways possible.not saying the mom was right but i understand how kids of this age can push all the right buttons and make you want to deal with their ungrateful behinds in extreme ways.

This is so sad, but nothing new. Continue to pray for we all can certainly use it. Prayer never hurt. Lord help us all. Parents against children - children against parents - what is this world coming too? Keep praying.

Last I checked being disrespectful toy your elders wasn't a crime but threatening with a knife is, nice way to look at a victim of assault. People have to earn respect.
