Police: Marine met girls, 10 and 12, in parking lot

Posted May 19, 2009

— Smithfield police charged a Marine Saturday with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Officers spotted Anthony Robert Ferguson, 19, with two girls in the parking lot of a local business around 3 a.m. on May 9, a spokesman said.

Lt. Keith Powell said Ferguson, 19, who is stationed at Camp Lejeune, was sitting in a vehicle with the sisters, ages 12 and 10. Ferguson allegedly met the older girl in an Internet chat room and arranged the meeting.

Police do not suspect Ferguson of any sexual contact with the girls.

He meets 12 year-olds in chat rooms? sicko! Either they lied about their age or he is a pedophile. Neither option is good for the girls!

Where were the parents? You know - asleep upstairs.

Several times when I was in Jr. High I would sleep over with a friend and we would sneak out and meet a guy who was in high school. He would drive us around for a little while and we would sneak back in.

It was not neglect on the parents part. If they knew we would have been in a lot of trouble. Just like these girls are in right now.

You know they say girls mature faster than boys, so really their mental ages are not that far apart. The girls are operating on 14 to 15 yo maturity and the guy is operating on about 17 to 18.

When I was 12 I looked and acted about 15. I liked it when the older boys took notice. We are talking kids that think they are all grown up and can handle these things. Lets not make them major criminals. I do put more of the burden to do right on the Marine - what was he thinking?

yes folks, unfortunately some of our troops are not men to be proud of. there is more going on like this than we even come close to hearing about. in iraq and afghanistan, as well. more the exception than the rule, of course, but it is happening.

I agree with everyone on WHERE WERE THE PARENTS?? When are parents going to learn to monitor what these kids do on the internet. It starts at home & having a real relationship with your kids & knowing what they are doing. As for the guy did he know how old they were? If so he is SICK.

Why were a 10 and 12 year old out at 3:00am? They need to charge their parents for neglect because that's what it is- in it's purest form!

  • ezLikeSundayMorning May 19, 2009

I'm hoping this guy thought he was meeting an 18 y/o and after meeting them was trying to warn them of the dangers without crushing their feelings.

Where in the world were these kids parents? Who is monitoring the information being transmitted on the internet?, and what a sicko... come on a 10 and 12 year old. Wake up!!!!
