Police: Man tried to drown woman in apartment pool

Burlington police were searching for a man who witnesses say jumped into a pool fully clothed and tried to drown a woman Saturday afternoon.

BURLINGTON, N.C. — Burlington police were searching for a man who witnesses say jumped into a pool fully clothed and tried to drown a woman Saturday afternoon.

Witnesses said that Gregory Williams, 27, entered the pool area at the Glenwood Apartments, 1528 S. Mebane St., around 2:45 p.m. and began to create a scene in front of children and adults there.

Police said that Williams jumped into the pool and tried to strangle and drown Ashlee Richmond, 28. He fled when witnesses called police.

Williams is wanted on charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, assault by strangulation and assault on a female.

He also goes by Gregory Louis Williamson and Gregory Louis Johnson.
