Police: Man sold bogus UNC-Duke tickets

Posted March 13, 2013

— A Columbus County man has been charged with selling phony tickets to a University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill basketball game, police said Wednesday.

John Graham Jr., 50, of 220 Walls Lane in Chadbourn, was arrested Saturday on charges of obtaining property by false pretense and resisting arrest.

Chapel Hill police said someone bought tickets to UNC's game against Duke University online and learned they were fake, so they worked with police to apprehend the ticket seller.

Someone ordered four more tickets to the UNC-Duke game, and officers arrested the seller as he tried to collect payment for the tickets, police said.

If people stopped supporting the business of scalpers, true sports fans would be able to get tickets. I will not buy a ticket above face value. When you buy from a criminal like this guy, you basically encourage the theft of reasonably priced tickets from kids and regular people that cannot or will not pay many multiples of face value. And if you get tickets from a "non-authorized ticket outlet" and they are listed at face value, that should be a clue you are being scammed.

Must have been a Duke grad to buy those tickets....Obamacare are you sure... he could be in with the sports program at UNC...and the student there....

My apologies...but at least we know for a fact that is was NOT a Duke sweatshirt.

Big deal if he is a Carolina fan. Doesn't mean he goes to school there or represents the school in any way. So really this crime has absolutely no connection to the reputation of UNC.

Even if he is wearing a UNC sweatshirt, there is no way this guy went to UNC or any other university.

This has always been a fear of mine especially with students switching around their tickets so they could join their friends. I like to think that people wouldn't try to trick others for their own gain, but as we can see with this fellow, it's hard to trust anyone anymore :[

And just last week a poster was saying the crime in CH was resulting from Durham spill over...Now its from Columbus county too..LOL
Glad they caught the guy and the victim was able to help in doing so. Karma came around this time.

Just because his hoodie is a blue color does not mean he is wearing a UNC hoodie. Many teams are associated with the color of his shirt so lets not make assumptions.
