CARY, N.C. — A man surrendered to authorities Sunday night following an aggravated assault in Cary.

Authorities said a gas station clerk called police at about 5:20 p.m. to report a domestic incident at one of the gas pumps.

Police said that a man and woman were fighting when two bystanders intervened. The man pulled a knife and assaulted the two bystanders, who were able to disarm him before he fled the scene.

The bystanders sustained minor injuries, police said.

The man’s vehicle was located at about 11 p.m. on Interstate 540 near Green Level Church Road, but authorities said the man, who was not identified, had already surrendered to authorities at WakeMed in Raleigh.
