Police: Man found on Durham Freeway was shot at club

Investigators believe Guadalupe Alejandro Lira, 35, was shot after a disturbance at a Miami Boulevard club and that friends were taking him to the hospital.

DURHAM, N.C. — Police think a fight at a club led to the death of a Durham man early Saturday.

Around 12:45 a.m., an officer stopped to assist a disabled vehicle that was partially blocking northbound traffic on the Durham Freeway, between Chapel Hill Street and Swift Avenue, police said. Inside the vehicle, the officer found a man who had been shot.

Investigators believe Guadalupe Alejandro Lira, 35, was shot after a disturbance at a Miami Boulevard club and that friends were taking him to the hospital.

Lira died at an area hospital of his injuries, police said.
